Why is finding the right ideas so important?

Designing and building is fun but creating successful products and businesses isn’t easy.

The problem is that not even the best design, smartest code or most persuasive marketing can turn ill-conceived ideas or mediocre (or worse) opportunities into winning products. We need to start with solid ideas, real opportunities and add great execution to see results.

But just where do we start?

It’s harder than it sounds

The questions above are ones that everyone building products struggles with at some stage, even those who’ve had previous success.

The key is in finding answers to the important questions upfront so that we can build and launch a truly successful product or make an early call to find a better idea.

But it’s harder than it sounds and our approach requires a rethink. Here’s some common reasons:

  • Homework is boring. It’s always tempting to skip it or rush it so we can just start building.
  • It’s hard to be objective with our own ideas and asking freinds and colleagues can often have the same result.
  • There’s so many variables it can overwhelming.
  • We get distracted by chasing success, vanity metrics or our next big idea.

What you’ll learn from the book
